13 Stylish Houseplants with Big Leaves

Written by Emily Belkoff

Want to make your home look amazing with plants? As a mom who’s crazy about greenery, I’ve turned my house into a mini jungle.

Big-leaf plants are the secret to that wow factor, and I’m excited to share my favorites with you!

13 Big-Leaf Indoor Plants

1. Round Leaf Calathea

This stunning plant has become my favorite conversation starter. The orb-shaped leathery foliage features beautiful creamy light green stripes that are literally bigger than my head.

I’ve learned that maintaining proper humidity is crucial – I keep a small humidifier nearby. The well-draining soil is non-negotiable; I mix my own using regular potting soil with extra perlite.

2. Hawaiian Pothos

My Hawaiian Pothos started modest but grew into a showstopper. The variegated leaves have become massive over time.

I’ve found the sweet spot is giving it a couple hours of morning sunlight followed by bright, indirect light the rest of the day.

3. Fiddle Leaf Fig

This elegant giant has grown to be the centerpiece of my living room. At 6 feet tall, its ruffled huge green leaves create an instant focal point.

I’ve positioned mine where it receives filtered sunlight throughout the day, and it’s thriving.

4. Philodendron

The Philodendron gloriosum has stolen my heart with its velvety green leaves adorned with striking white veins.

Every time I look at it, I’m amazed by how it adds a larger-than-life feel to my space.

5. Variegated Alocasia (Giant Taro)

True to its name, my Giant Taro’s leaves are bigger than my head!

It flourishes in my bright corner with added humidity from a nearby humidifier.

6. Ruffled Fan Palm (Licuala Grandis)

The pleated leaves of this unusual palm variety remind me of giant oriental fans.

I’ve found it surprisingly easy to care for indoors, thriving in my bright room with filtered light.

7. Dumb Cane (Dieffenbachia)

This gentle giant has exceeded my expectations, reaching nearly 9 feet in my home.

The large variegated foliage makes a striking statement without demanding too much attention.

8. Rubber Plant

My rubber plant has become a family favorite, whether in its variegated or solid green form.

The glossy leaves have grown impressively large over the years.

9. Hosta

While traditionally an outdoor plant, I’ve successfully grown hostas indoors.

The large waxy variegated leaves come in beautiful shades of green and blue-green. They thrive in my brightest indoor spot.

10. Giant Bird of Paradise

This spectacular plant brings resort vibes to my living space with its banana plant-like leaves.

I ensure it gets 4-5 hours of bright indirect light daily, and it rewards me with dramatic tropical flair.

11. Monstera (Swiss Cheese Plant)

My Monstera has become the star of my plant collection with its iconic split leaves.

The well-draining soil mix and perfect indirect light spot have helped it produce massive, stunning foliage.

12. Velvet Leaf Anthurium

The velvety leaves on this beauty have grown to an impressive two feet in length.

It thrives in bright indirect light, creating a luxurious tropical display.

13. Cigar Plant (Calathea)

This special Calathea variety rounds out my collection perfectly with its banana-like leaves.

Under bright indirect light, it continues to surprise me with increasingly enormous foliage.
