15 Best Ideas to Make Plants Look Festive for Holiday Season

Written by Emily Belkoff

Christmas is coming, and I’m itching to decorate everything in sight – including my plants!

If you’re wondering how to make your leafy pals look festive too, you’re in luck. I’ve got 15 super easy ideas to jazz up your plants for the holidays.

Trust me, your green buddies are gonna look amazing!

1. Pot Wrap

One of my favorite quick fixes is the simple pot wrap. I love grabbing a festive ribbon or piece of fabric and wrapping it around my plant pots. It’s an instant transformation!

For a rustic touch, I sometimes use burlap. It gives such a cozy, homey feel to my indoor jungle.

2. Hanging Candy Canes

Who says candy canes are just for the Christmas tree? I’ve found they make adorable decorations for plants too!

You can stick them directly into the soil or hang them from the pot’s edge. My kids love helping with this one – it’s become a fun family tradition.

3. Holiday Ornaments

Adding Christmas ornaments to indoor plants is a game-changer. Last year, I decorated my split-leaf monstera with some sparkly baubles, and it looked absolutely stunning!

4. Sweater Pots

This idea is perfect for those chilly winter days. I love repurposing old sweaters by cutting them to fit snugly around my plant pots.

My snake plant looks particularly dapper in its colorful sweater ‘outfit’!

5. Wrapping Paper Pots

Transform your plant pots into festive ‘gifts’ with some wrapping paper. I find that classic brown or red paper works wonderfully for this.

It’s a great way to use up those odd bits of wrapping paper left over from gift-wrapping.

6. String Lights

String lights are my go-to for adding a magical touch to plants. Just remember to be gentle when installing them to avoid damaging your green friends.

I always opt for LED lights as they don’t produce heat that could harm the plants.

7. Woven Cover and Ornaments

For a quick and easy festive look, I sometimes use a woven basket cover for my plant pots. Add a few ornaments, and voila! You’ve got a beautiful indoor focal point with minimal effort.

8. Santa Hats

Nothing says ‘holiday cheer’ quite like a Santa hat! I love accessorizing my plants with these. They’re easy to make and really take the festive look to the next level.

9. Santa Claus Pot Wrap

For a no-fuss option, I sometimes use printed wrapping paper with a Santa design. Just cut it to size, secure with tape, and you’ve got an instant festive pot cover!

10. Festive Plant Toppers

Want to make your plants really stand out? Try using reindeer horns on small plants like cacti. It’s quirky, fun, and always gets a laugh from visitors.

11. Tiny Christmas Figurines

I have a collection of small Christmas figurines that I love placing in and around my plants. They’re inexpensive but add so much charm to the overall display.

12. Gingerbread Man Plant Hanger

A gingerbread man hanging from the side of a plant pot is just too cute to resist! It’s become one of my signature decorations during the holidays.

13. Poinsettias

Of course, no holiday plant decoration list would be complete without mentioning poinsettias. These classic holiday plants need no extra decoration – just pop them in a matching pot and let them shine!

14. Ribbon Wrap

A simple checkered ribbon wrapped around a pot can make such a difference. It’s quick, easy, and oh-so-festive!

15. Christmas Balls

To finish off my plant decorations, I often place some shiny Christmas balls on the floor around the pots. Combined with a ribbon-wrapped pot, it creates a beautifully festive scene.
