19 Seasonal Houseplants that You Must Not Miss Growing

Written by Emily Belkoff

Ever wish you could have a garden, but don’t have the space or time? Same here!

That’s why I love these 19 seasonal houseplants. They bring the outdoors in and change with the seasons.

Trust me, they’re game-changers!

1. African Violets

Oh, how I adore African Violets! Their rich, vibrant blooms never fail to brighten up my kitchen windowsill. With their soft, fuzzy leaves and stunning colors of purple, pink, and blue, they’re like a springtime symphony in a pot.

2. Gloxinia

If you’re looking for a real showstopper, Gloxinia is your plant. I remember the first time I brought one home – my kids were mesmerized by its velvety, bell-shaped flowers. It’s become our family’s official “spring is here” plant.

3. Primroses

Primroses hold a special place in my heart. Their rainbow colors remind me of the first time my daughter helped me plant them. Now, every spring, we choose new colors together, bringing warmth and joy to our home.

4. Peace Lily

When summer’s heat kicks in, my Peace Lily thrives. Its serene white blooms seem to whisper “stay cool” on even the hottest days. It’s become my go-to plant for creating a calm oasis in our busy living room.

5. Begonias

Begonias are my summer superheroes. With minimal care, they reward me with vibrant colors that rival the summer sunset. They’re perfect for busy moms who want beauty without the fuss.

6. Coleus Plant

The Coleus plant is like nature’s paintbrush. Its leaves capture the summer palette so perfectly, it’s like having a living artwork in my study. My kids love comparing the leaf patterns to their summer art projects.

7. Sago Palm

Standing proud and tall, my Sago Palm is undaunted by the summer heat. It reminds me to stay strong and resilient, no matter how hot things get (literally and figuratively!).

8. Caladiums

Caladiums are my exotic storytellers. Their leaves, with various shades and patterns, remind me of the tropical vacations we dream about. They bring a touch of faraway lands to our suburban home.

9. Croton

As autumn approaches, my Croton steals the show. Its leaves match the outdoor fall colors so perfectly, it’s like having a miniature autumn forest indoors. It’s become our family’s fall decoration tradition.

10. Chrysanthemums

Chrysanthemums bloom with the earthy tones of the season, bringing the cozy feeling of fall right into our living room. They remind me of warm apple cider and pumpkin patches.

11. Orchid Cactus

The Orchid Cactus, with its night-blooming flowers, resonates with fall’s unique beauty. It’s become our family’s favorite plant to observe in the evenings, as we wind down from busy days.

12. Christmas Cactus

Nothing says “holidays are here” quite like our Christmas Cactus. It turns our home into a festive sanctuary, blooming just in time for family gatherings and cookie-baking marathons.

13. Poinsettia

Poinsettias celebrate the joy of the season in our home. Their vibrant red leaves have become as much a part of our Christmas traditions as hanging stockings and decorating the tree.

14. Cyclamen

Resistant through the chill, Cyclamen provides a splash of color against gray winter skies. It reminds us that even in the coldest months, life and beauty persist.

15. Snake Plant

Our Snake Plant is the unsung hero of our home, bringing greenery all year round. Its air-purifying properties make it a must-have for any family focused on creating a healthy living space.

16. ZZ Plant

The ZZ Plant is my go-to for year-round greenery. It’s so low-maintenance, even my not-so-green-thumbed husband can keep it alive!

17. Dracaena

Our Dracaena is a year-round champion, purifying the air and adding a tropical touch to our home no matter the season. It’s like having a piece of summer with us all year long.

18. Spider Plants

Spider Plants are the ultimate adaptable plants in our home. They’re perfect for those in-between seasons, thriving whether it’s a late spring frost or an early fall chill.

19. Aloe Vera

Last but not least, Aloe Vera bridges the gap from one season to the next in our home. Not only is it adaptable, but it’s also our go-to for minor burns and scrapes – a true multitasker in the plant world!
