Here’s something most garden blogs won’t tell you – February is a secret sweet spot for planting certain flowers!
I stumbled onto this by accident a few years ago, and now my garden blooms way earlier than my neighbors’.
Want to know which flowers work best?
I’m sharing my tried-and-true list that makes my garden pop with color every year.
The 7 Perfect Flowers for February Planting
1. Bell Flowers
These sweet little flowers have become my absolute favorite for shady spots in my garden. Their dainty bell-shaped blooms come in the prettiest colors – I especially love the purple and white varieties.
They’re super easy to care for, which is perfect for my busy schedule with the kids. I’ve planted them along my garden path, and they make the prettiest cut flowers for my kitchen table.
Last year, they started blooming in late winter and kept going strong right through summer!
2. Geraniums
If you live somewhere warm like I do, February is the perfect time to get those geraniums in the ground. Just make sure you pick a sunny spot – these beauties need lots of sunshine to thrive.
I learned the hard way that good drainage is key. My first batch got waterlogged because I didn’t prepare the soil properly!
For my northern gardening friends, you’ll want to hold off until the frost danger passes. Nobody wants sad, frozen geraniums!
3. Lilies
Oh my goodness, if you haven’t planted lilies yet, you’re missing out! February is my secret weapon timing for getting these planted.
The cool soil actually helps them develop strong roots. I’ve got them placed right where they get that perfect morning sun.
Trust me, once these beauties bloom in summer, your neighbors will be begging to know your gardening secrets!
