9 Best Cat Friendly Indoor Plants (Non-Toxic to Pets)

Written by Emily Belkoff

As a cat owner who loves plants, I used to worry about keeping my furry friend safe around greenery.

But I’ve found some great cat-friendly plants that make my home feel like a cozy garden, and my cat loves them too!

Top Cat-Friendly Plants

1. American Rubber Plant (Baby Rubber Plant)

The American Rubber Plant, also known as the Baby Rubber Plant, has become my go-to indoor evergreen perennial. It’s incredibly easy to care for, which is perfect for my busy lifestyle.

I’ve learned that shielding it from prolonged direct sunlight keeps those lovely leaves looking fresh and vibrant.

2. Persian Violet

Oh, how I adore my Persian Violet! Its fragrant, short-lived flowers with that attractive yellow center never fail to brighten my day.

I’ve found it thrives best in partial sunlight, mild temperatures, and moist, well-drained soil. It’s like having a little piece of Persian paradise right in my living room!

3. Calathea

Calathea has quickly become my favorite decorative piece. Its beautiful leaves are simply mesmerizing!

I keep mine happy with partial light, adequate humidity, and well-drained soil. It’s more than just a pretty face – it’s a conversation starter whenever friends come over.

4. Sunflower

When I wanted to add some outdoor beauty to my balcony, I turned to the radiant sunflower. This iconic bloom requires full sunlight and loose, well-drained alkaline soil.

Now, every time I step out, I’m greeted by my very own ray of sunshine!

5. Marigolds

Marigolds have been a vivid delight in my garden, and surprisingly, they’re more than just eye candy.

I’ve noticed my kitten occasionally nibbling on the blooms, which I learned can aid in digestion and even fight bacteria and viruses. It’s reassuring to know these beautiful flowers are safe for my curious kitty to explore.

6. Zinnia

Zinnias have become a notorious favorite in our household. My cat absolutely loves to nibble on these vibrant flowers!

With their various colors and shapes, they’re not only a feast for the eyes but also a tasty treat for my feline friend. It’s like having a colorful, cat-approved buffet right in our backyard!

7. Prayer Plant

The Prayer Plant has added a touch of spiritual charm to my home. I’m always fascinated watching its leaves turn like hands in prayer.

It thrives in bright indirect sunlight and well-draining soil, making it a low-maintenance addition to my indoor garden.
